Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken a leaf out Meghan Markle’s diet philosophy, experimenting with vegan cooking on their latest royal engagement.
Prince William and Kate Middleton tried out Meghan Markle’s diet on one of their most recent royal engagements, ditching meat burgers for the healthier—yet just as delicious—plant-based alternative.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got straight to business after arriving in Scotland on Monday for the COP26 climate summit, heading to a Glasgow sports center in Dennistoun for a meet-up with a group of young Scouts.
As joint President of the Scout Association, Kate wore the organization’s iconic neckerchief over a long-sleeved black turtle neck and khaki vest jacket. She completed the laid-back look with a pair of dark skinny jeans and chunky boots, proving once again there’s no outfit she can’t nail. William also dressed casually, swapping his signature suits for loose jeans and a light blue collared shirt under a knit green sweater.
The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the Scouts’ Promise to the Planet campaign, which calls on individuals to make lifestyle changes in response to the climate emergency.
Kate and William participated in a number of ecological activities over the course of the afternoon, helping the children to scatter wildflower seeds and learning the art of fixing a bicycle. Perhaps most notable was their contribution to the Scouts’ cooking session, which saw them whipping up veggie burgers from surplus food.
With animal agriculture notorious for its negative impact on the environment, giving up meat and dairy is one of the most effective ways to make a meaningful difference. The Duke and Duchess seemed more than happy to take this message on board, eagerly diving into the culinary activity under the instruction of their young teachers.
Will happily got to work slicing a cabbage, while Kate was tasked with cutting an aubergine—both of which were then mashed in a mixing bowl and molded into patties for grilling. The royal couple made friendly conversation with the kids as they cooked, asking them all about their favorite dishes and thoughts on vegetarian cuisine.
This conscious way of eating has already been adopted by Meghan Markle, who stays healthy by following a mostly plant-based meal plan.
“I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends,” she told Best Health in 2015.
“But at the same time, it’s all about balance. Because I work out the way I do, I don’t ever want to feel deprived. I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things. It’s not a diet; it’s lifestyle eating.”
Looks like Will and Kate have more in common with Meghan and Harry than they thought!
