The ABC has confirmed China Tonight will return with a fresh season next week in the new time slot of 9.30pm on Mondays.

Stan Grant and Yvonne Yong are back to bring you a fresh look at news and current affairs from inside China.

This season will bring stories of China’s rise in the world, and the changes and challenges at home – disability rights, Chinese medicine, and the phenomenon of school tutoring!

On Monday, comedian and presenter Annie Louey looks at the new ‘lying down’ movement – bucking the workaholic approach of the past; writer Jinghua Qian reports on the suppression of LGBTQI activists in China, and we look at China’s relationship with Afghanistan, after the exit of the US and allied forces and return of the Taliban.

Plus, what’s making the news and what’s trending on Weibo.

Understand China beyond the headline trade wars and global posturing.

China Tonight can be watched on Mondays at 9:30pm on ABC TV, Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC NEWS channel, and anytime on ABC iview.

Watching from outside Australia? China Tonight is available on ABC Australia and ABC Australia iview on Mondays at 7pm in Delhi, 8.30pm in Hanoi, 9.30pm in Hong-Kong and Kuala Lumpur and 11.30pm in PNG.
