Channel 7 has confirmed that Steve Titmus will join Amanda Abate to present 7NEWS Gold Coast weekdays at 5.30pm from Monday, 6 September.
An accomplished journalist with more than 30 years’ experience, Titmus joined the 7NEWS team in the 1990s as a sports reporter in Adelaide. He later moved to Tasmania, where he presented the news for Southern Cross, taking the bulletin to number one in the ratings.
The presenter is also the father of Ariarne Titmus who recently won two Gold medals and a Silver in Tokyo.
Family commitments saw Titmus relocate to the Sunshine State six years ago, where he continued to work for Seven as a reporter and presenter, anchoring bulletins on the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
On the appointment, Titmus said:
“This is an exciting opportunity to return to full-time presenting which has been a passion throughout my career.
“Amanda and I are firm friends and I’m looking forward to our combined personalities presenting an informative and engaging news service each night.”
Director 7NEWS Brisbane and Gold Coast, Neil Warren, said:
“Steve’s news reading ability has been on the radar for a while now, but we’ve had to wait until after the Olympics before we could roll out the plan.
“What you see is what you get with Steve. Enthusiasm, he’s driven, just like Ariarne, a terrific and very talented person.
“The Gold Coast will love him – he’s warm and there’s a comfort about Steve that will make him appointment viewing at 5.30pm. He will make a great team with Amanda, who is forging a path as one of the best known and respected news presenters on the Gold Coast.” he said.
7NEWS Gold Coast with Amanda Abate and Steve Titmus airs weekdays from 5.30pm on Channel 7 and 7plus
