Viewers stunned by Vigil finale

After six weeks the last episode of Vigil has just dropped, with viewers left “screaming at the TV” with a final big twist.

It’s been one of the most talked about shows this month, and the finale of Vigil did not disappoint.

The BBC series dropped its sixth and final episode on Binge today, and it was fit with one final heart-stopping moment in a very on-brand move for the unpredictable miniseries, which boldly killed off a lead character in the opening seven minutes of the first episode.

We won’t give away any spoilers here in case you’re yet to watch the show, but we will say viewers have been left utterly stunned by the events of the finale.

Vigil has been a hot topic on social media as new episodes dropped weekly, with its increasingly escalating plot lines.

The show, from the makers of Line of Duty, first opens with the bizarre disappearance of a fishing trawler and a crew member death on-board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil in Scotland.

Police are called in to investigate the death, led by Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones), who immediately suspects foul pay despite it earlier being written off as an accidental overdose.

Making the police mission all the more risky, the submarine can’t be taken offline or to the dock to remain operational as a nuclear deterrent, so police have to be dropped on the vessel in the middle of the sea where there’s a potential murderer at large.

Vigil is fronted by a strong cast including Jones (Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster), Line of Duty alum Martin Compston as Chief Petty Officer Craig Burke and Games of Thrones’ Rose Leslie as Detective Sergeant Kirsten Longacre.
